Come On In and Join Me!

 Welcome to Intentional Tacos!

Don't worry, this isn't one of those blogs that tries to persuade you to stop buying every single convenience food from the store, or says that if you don't make your own artisan sourdough bread, that you aren't "living the life".  Although, if you want to make your own bread, there will probably be some recipes for that coming in, later!

Lets get the introductions out of the way.  My name is Lisa.  And, like many of you, I have struggled with, and still struggle with, being what people politely refer to as, "low income".  That's right, I'm chronically broke.  I was on food stamps for many years.  I probably just barely make enough now, that I am past that cut off point.

I'm here because I wanted to present a blog for people like me - people who can't afford ingredients like saffron and Tunisian whatever-the-flavor-of-the-week is.  I also want to show you some tips and tricks that I have learned over the years, to help make those food dollars stretch - and to do so without stocking up on the 10 for $10 frozen TV dinners or pizzas that we all seem to get so used to.

Don't get me wrong - there are some amazing food blogs and shows out there.  I'm in no way trying to diminish their creativity!  I've just found that a good deal of them make foods that I could never afford to make without wondering - "If I make this meal, am I going to have enough for (insert expense here)?"

Good food should not be limited to people with money.

What does this mean for you?  Well, let me say right out of the gate - you're going to have to get into the kitchen! By in the kitchen, I mean for longer than it takes to put that frozen pizza in the oven, darlin'.  Cooking can be a pain in the butt - I get it - especially when the kids are screaming for dinner and you're tired after working all day.  Maybe you're new to the cooking world, and that's fine too!  Or, maybe, you just want to eat some great food that isn't going to break the bank every time you go shopping.

I'm not saying that every recipe that I put up here is going to be some sort of low-carb, sugar-free, low-fat, vegan, vegetarian culinary delight.  Eating healthy can be expensive - we all know that.  But, you can eat healthiER.  You can step away from the frozen convenience foods that are marketed for lower income people (because, face it, they are!), and put some good food on the table that won't break the bank.

Also, this blog won't be ALL about food.  Variety is the spice of life, right?
